While in #Peru in 2017 I had a beautiful dream of playing a Drone flute at the waters edge. Fast forward to 2021 where I finally made the purchase a reality. I found http://www.singingtreeflutes.com and messaged with this creative genius, Miguel. I drove to #Oregon and visited with him to find just the right flute for me. A complete beginner who of course skipped over a beginner flute and went straight for this beauty. I lovingly refer to her as "La Luna." She was custom made for me including the holes placed to better accommodate my long narrow fingers. Designed with two moons and a cubic zirconia placed as a shining star. As well as a tiny knot in the wood filled in with turquoise.
Three months later she arrived to my friends doorstep. An incredible work of art and I immediately fell in love with her looks. I have always been drawn to the sound of the Drone Flute and was beyond excited to begin practicing. To my dismay, I absolutely sucked and just did not connect. I could not even make one drone sound properly. I knew I would not be a pro right away. Yet I was hopeful that it would be an easier process. I thought that it was just not the right time as so many things were going different directions in my life. I felt a bit scattered and needed to focus. I put her aside and then was traveling for Plant Medicine Ceremonies. I left her behind in the US as I traveled to Mexico to help others with their healing journeys. Wondering if I would keep her or if in fact she belonged to someone else. That someone else would be able to play those incredible melodic sounds that she is capable of playing. You can look up Singing Tree Flutes on You tube and see just what I am writing about. I can get lost for hours into his beautiful music.
I am beyond grateful to share that the other day I brought her out and actually connected! Although an absolute beginner it was like I had been practicing for months. What transpired from not being able to make a sound to actually feeling and hearing the beauty of my Native American Style Drone Flute, "La Luna." To pin point exactly is not possible. There are several factors involved. The main one is that I pulled her out of her protective sleeve and shared this gorgeous flute with three playful children aged 4, 7 & 8. Although their fingers could not cover the holes properly they expressed joy at the beautifully imperfect sounds that danced in the air. We smiled a lot and all of us were full of giggles. I then went out on a dock and sat by myself and had my turn. What joy I felt as I realized that just like the 19th-century British fairy tale of Goldie Locks and the three bears with the porridge that was too hot, too cold and just right. I realized that my flute is just right. It is perfect for me and I look forward to many more practices at the waters edge.
